XY+ Workshop: What successful strategies are advisers using in their businesses – Facilitated by Sara Millard

Sara Millard was keen to kickstart a discussion on successful strategies advisers have implemented in their business to grow their client base and run a more efficient operation.

Sara’s current conundrum is this – as her business has grown over the years and she’s gravitated towards serving a certain client demographic, she wants to downsize her client base but increase revenue and make her advice process as efficient as possible so that she’s able to facilitate plenty of touch points with her clients, but not have to work 17 hours a day to do it.

Here’s a quick summary from the discussion:

Growing your client base –

Sara shared a document she put together to share with other XY+ members showing the improvements she’s made to attract her ideal clients and make her initial engagement process with new clients more transparent and efficient.

It includes a lead magnet, corporate profile, advice package options and service agreement – click here to download the doc

Wayne Elliott shared how he’s using Lumiant’s lead magnet function to engage prospective clients with thought-provoking questions, general financial education and information about understanding their values.

Luke Hanson shared some stats on where his clients come from and explained how he is leveraging SEO, Google Reviews and hyper-niche content on his website to target his ideal clients, and in his local area.

Business efficiencies –

Luke asked for others to share the most valuable efficiency strategies advisers have implemented in their business. Reuben Zelwer kicked off a discussion around file notes by sharing that he’s put in quite the effort to get this humming in his advice process. He uses rev.com to transcribe his file notes, which he says has become really accurate.

Advisers shared whether they are recording their meetings or not, and how this impacts creating file notes. Luke free types his file notes post-meeting and wonders if recording the meeting and using a transcript for file notes might be efficient for the adviser but not necessarily efficient down the track for those who have to use it (or make sense of it) further down the advice process.

While Luke free types his file notes and applies formatting with heading, paragraphs etc to make it easy to read and understand, he has been dabbling with the dictate app from Microsoft. He’s also created some template wording he will customise for each client to explain general concepts etc.
